Abubakar deploys AIGs to zones

Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has deployed 11 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to various zonal formations and commands across the country.

The postings came a day after the AIGs completed a two-week intensive course on leadership and strategic management at the Centre for Management Development, Shangisha, Lagos.

The training was designed to prepare them for the challenges of their new ranks and postings.

They are expected to resume duty on May 30, 2012.

The AIGS are Solomon Olusegun, Zone 9 Umuahia (comprising Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Imo states); Michael Zuokumor, Zone 4 Makurdi (Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau states); Orubebe Ebikeme, Zone 11 Osogbo (Ondo, Osun and Oyo states); Philemon Leha, Zone 1 Kano (Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states) and Jonathan Johnson, Zone 8 Lokoja (Ekiti, Kogi and Kwara states).

Others include Dan’Azumi Doma, Force Secretary; Muktari Ibrahim, Zone 10 Sokoto; Suleiman Abba, Zone 7 Abuja (FCT Abuja, Kaduna and Niger states); Mamman Tsafe, Zone 2 Lagos (Comprising Lagos and Ogun states); Saliu Hashimu, Zone 5 Benin (Bayelsa, Delta and Edo states) and Solomon Arase, Criminal Intelligence.

Meanwhile, former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero, told members of the House of Representatives and other participants at a constitution review retreat in Port Harcourt on Saturday, that policemen were not trained to combat crime at night.

He stated that no policeman could contend with the hi-tech crime in Nigeria as a result of the lack of adequate training and modern equipment for crime fighting.

Ehindero added that armed robbers had changed from robbing at night to breaking into banks with explosives.

He said, “Robbers are becoming more technical in their operations. They used to wear masks before and rob on the road. But today, they are breaking into banks with grenades. Our police are not trained to fight crimes at night.”
