Alleged death threat: I’m ready to drop my immunity —Alao-Akala
Headlines, Oyo Tuesday, December 21st, 2010GOVERNOR Adebayo Alao Akala of Oyo State has declared that he is ready to drop his immunity and subject himself to questioning by law enforcement agents over his alleged complicity in death threats said to have been issued to some prominent citizens of the state.
The governor, who said this while speaking with newsmen in his office on Wednesday, also debunked insinuations on his alleged frosty relationship with most of the traditional rulers in the state, declaring he had a cordial relationship with virtually all of them.
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi and a former governor in the state, Alhaji Lam Adesina, had recently raised the alarm that Alao-Akala was behind a plot to eliminate them, ahead of the 2011 elections.
However, speaking with newsmen in his office on Wednesday, Governor Alao-Akala, who had debunked the allegation, said that he had always maintained a good and cordial relationship with most of the traditional rulers in the state, except Oba Adeyemi.
“He should be asked, what is my offence or what he wants me to do. Alaafin should tell the whole world why I would want to kill him. In any case, I am ready to drop my immunity as a governor and face questioning and probably prosecution by the law enforcement agents.
“Contrary to what many people are saying, Oba Adeyemi is the source of my quarrel with the Olubadan of Ibadan and the Soun of Ogbomoso over the chairmanship of the State Council of Traditional Rulers.
“The two royal fathers are not happy with my decision to make Oba Adeyemi, the permanent chairman of the council and I told them that there is nothing I can do since that was the arrangement I met on ground. I also told them that the existing law on rotation can only be changed by a legislative act. What else does Alaafin wants.wp_posts
