Alleged missing N20bn oil money: Senator Anosike tackles Sanusi
CBN (Central Bank of Nigeria), General Politics, Headlines Saturday, February 15th, 2014…Says he’s diverting attention
As the Federal Government considers hiring the services of independent forensic auditors to look into the books of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to ascertain whether the company actually failed to remit oil revenues accruing to it as claimed by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Senator Emma Anosike has raised the alarm that the CBN governor was playing a diversionary game.
Senator Anosike who was the running mate of Professor Chukwuma Soludo in the 2007 governorship election in Anambra State said that Sanusi in changing the actual figure of the “missing” oil money shows that he was up to something else.
The Senator who is also the Chairman, Governing Board of the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta told Sunday Sun that he was totally disappointed with Sanusi over his controversial utterances.
He said: “Initially, he said $49billion was missing. After some days, he appeared with the Minister of Finance and the Petroleum Minister to tell Nigerians that they have reconciled the account and that it was $10billion that is yet to be reconciled. He even went as far as apologizing for misleading Nigerians. Now he has gone to the Senate to say that $20billion is missing. I feel so bad because everything I am seeing shows there is a smear campaign against the President. The Central Bank governor is part and parcel of this government. He is the head of a regulatory agency of the government. Therefore, he is not supposed to be saying or doing things that would smear the government. If he has issues or reservations with the Ministry of Finance or with NNPC, he should sit down with such a minister and reconcile the misgivings and so on. The CBN governor is not an agent of the government for money collection. His job in this case is to regulate how this money is spent. It is quite worrisome the way Sanusi is carrying himself. Nobody is after his job but we are all Nigerians. The CBN governor is supposed to be seen not heard. But in the case of Sanusi, he talks too much and more of a politician than a technocrat. If there are issues on the economy or finance, he should go to the minister and that would be to help in finding solutions, solving the problem of the country.”
