Arrest me if you can, Oni dares Fayemi
Ekiti, Headlines, State News Friday, May 18th, 2012FORMER governor of Ekiti State, Chief Segun Oni, has dared the incumbent governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, to make good his threat of arresting and prosecuting him for parading himself as former governor, saying “if he (Fayemi) has no enough policemen to effect the arrest in Ekiti, he can call for reinforcement from his godfather in Lagos.”
Fayemi had said on Tuesday, while addres-ing some pro-Salami protesters in Ado-Ekiti, that he would get Oni arrested and prosecuted for addressing himself as a former governor.
However, in a statement signed by his media aide, Mr Lere Olayin-ka, the former governor, who is also the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national vice chairman (South-West), said “since Fayemi has discovered that he (Oni) was impersonating, he should waste no time in reporting to the police.”
Oni said since assumption of office of Fayemi, it had been all threat without action, adding that he hoped Fayemi would make good his threat this time round.
“I am sure Fayemi won’t have much problem in getting me arrested because, unlike him, I spend most of my time in Ifaki-Ekiti, my hometown. And if there are no enough policemen in Ekiti to effect the arrest, he can ask for more policemen from Lagos,” Oni said.
Oni advised Fayemi to avail himself with the recent judgment of the Supreme Court on the tenure of former governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris and others, which stated that “when the tribunal/courts so declare the election a nulity, the declaration does not affect the validity of the oaths the governor took so as to function in that office as required by the constitution, neither would it affect the bills he signed into law, contracts awarded and budgets.”
