Bombings: Police train 2,000 men, officers on anti-terrorism techniques

As part of the efforts aimed at checking the current spate of bombings in parts of the country, about 2,000 officers and men of the Nigeria Police will commence anti-terrorism training in Kaduna on Monday.

The anti-terrorism training which will last for three months will be conducted at the Police College, Kaduna.

The Commandant of the college, Mr. Saba Ndagi, disclosed this in a chat with newsmen on Thursday in his office.

Ndagi, a commissioner of police, said that the participants drawn from the various commands across the country would undergo rigorous training sessions in anti-terrorism and bomb disposal techniques at the college.

Two bomb blasts recently occurred in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, resulting in the loss of several lives.

The first incident took place on October 1, 2010 some few metres away from the Eagle Square venue of the country’s Golden Jubilee, while the second incident occurred on New Year Eve at the Mogadishu Cantonment Mammy Market.

Earlier on December 24, 2010 multiple bomb blasts had rocked Jos, the Plateau State capital, leaving scores of dead victims.

Ndagi however added that the anti-terrorism experts and instructors that would conduct the training sessions had already arrived at the college, awaiting the participants.

He added that the second batch of 300 policemen and officers trained at the college in anti-terrorism concluded their training last week.

Ndagi expressed confidence that the police had the capability to check the spate of bomb blasts in different parts of the country.

“About 2,000 are coming for anti-terrorism training from Monday. They are coming for three months vigorous training. The participants are serving policemen and officers from different commands. They include senior officers, inspectors, sergeants, constables and corporals,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Commandant of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Tijjani Mu’azu, has inaugurated newly acquired hospital equipment at the Jaji Military Cantonment Hospital.

A statement by the AFCSC Public Relations Officer, Lt. Col. Muhammed Dole said that the delivery of the equipment followed the inauguration of the hospital last August by the Minister of Defence, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode.
