BREAKING: UK Police detain Ekweremadu, wife

The Specialist Crime Team of the Metropolitan Police in London has detained a former Senate Deputy President Dr. Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice.

According to Sky News, the two suspects were arrested for alleged conspiracy to harvest the organs of a child.

But the child has been taken into protective custody.

The media organisation reported: “Two people have been charged with conspiring to bring a child to the UK in order to harvest organs, the Metropolitan Police said.

“Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, and Ike Ekweremadu, 60, have been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court today.

“Charges were brought against the pair, who are from Nigeria, following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime team.

“A child has now been safeguarded.

“The investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022, the force said.” A top source in Nigeria confirmed the arrest.

The Metropolitan Police in London on Thursday said Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, and Ike Ekweremadu, 60, have been remanded.

According to reports, the duo have been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court today.

A source who is very close to the Ekweremadu family confirmed the incident.

The source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the allegations leveled against Ekweremadu are exaggerated.

“We have heard of the incident, however, the charges leveled against him (Ekweremadu) and his wife are mere exaggerations. Let’s wait for the final findings and not rush to make hasty conclusions”

Ekweremadu, is a Nigerian politician and lawyer from Enugu State who has served in the Senate of Nigeria since May 2003.

He is a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and was the Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate for three consecutive (6th, 7th and 8th) senate.

Ike Ekweremadu, former deputy senate president, and his wife, Beatrice, have been arrested and charged to court for bringing a child to the UK for organ harvesting.

Confirming the arrests in a statement, the metropolitan police said the pair were charged to court on Thursday following an investigation by the police’ specialist crime team.

The police added that the investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

“Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting,” the statement reads.

“Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

“They have both been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court later today.”

“A child has been safeguarded and we are working closely with partners on continued support.

“As criminal proceedings are now under way we will not be providing further details.”
