Cross River: Imoke calls for sober reflection
Cross River, State News Friday, April 22nd, 2011THE Cross River State governor,Senator Liyel Imoke, has urged Christians to use this year’s Easter celebration to reflect soberly on the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, which delivered mankind from total condemnation unto eternal life.
Senator Imoke said the reason for Christ’s death and resurrection was very significant, because it was through the finished work on the cross that Christians drew their strength and everlasting hope.
The governor said the peace and brotherly love, which were the identities of Cross River State and Nigerians, should prevail now more than ever, by ensuring that there was unfettered show of love for one another, while also engaging in deep meditation and reflection on their calling, as demonstrated by Jesus Christ while on earth.
He said the 2011 commemoration of Easter was a divine time for selfless sacrifice, as it coincided with a very significant moment in the democratic journey of the nation.
The governor charged Christians to use the period to pray fervently for peace and stability of the country, as well as successful transition in May 2011.
Governor Imoke particularly appealed to the youth not to allow themselves to be used by unpatriotic persons to cause unrest during the Easter period.
He warned that anyone who perpetrated violence during this time would have failed in his or her spiritual role to pray for the uplift of Nigeria and, if caught, would be made face the full wrath of the law.
While wishing all Christians an eventful Easter celebration, he thanked Nigerians for their show of solidarity during the electioneering period and urged them to sustain the tempo throughout the period in the spirit of Easter.
