DIG Leha replaces late DIG Haruna, 9 AIGs redeployed

Four months after the death of former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Operations, Haruna John, in a helicopter crash in Jos, Plateau State, a new DIG has been appointed to take the vacant position.
This is in continuation of the present efforts aimed at restructuring and repositioning of the Nigeria Police for greater efficiency and effective service delivery, police authorities have said.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr M.D. Abubakar, also approved the immediate posting and redeployment of 10 senior police officers who were recently promoted and decorated at the police headquarters in Abuja.

The only DIG of Police among the newly promoted senior police officers, DIG Philemon I. Leha, is now the DIG in charge of ‘B’ Department (Operations), Force Headquarters, Abuja.

By virtue of his current rank and posting, DIG Leha automatically becomes a member of the Police Management Team (PMT), which serves as a mini “Police Governing Council.”

Also affected by the postings and deployments are nine other Assistant Inspectors General of Police, whose names and postings are indicated below.

AIG Muktari Ibrahim; AIG Zone 6 Calabar, AIG Christopher Dega; Commandant, Police Academy, Kano, AIG Aliyu Musa; AIG Border Patrol FHQ, Abuja, AIG Bala A. Hassan; Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos, AIG M.J. Abubakar; AIG Zone 10 Sokoto, AIG Tambari Y.
