Don’t Polarise Nigeria With Zoning – Fashola

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola  has called on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its political gladiators not to distract the  country’s preparation for  2011 general elections with its zoning policy. Fashola  who carpeted  those involved in the zoning and rotational presidency palaver  when the national executive of Ansar- Udeen Society of Nigeria  paid him a courtesy visit said the debates generated by the controversy is unnecessary , wondering why they  allowed zoning arrangement to replace developmental issues and other salient issues confronting the country.

“Zoning and rotational presidency will not feed our people, it will not create jobs. It is not anchored on competence. Question on national development are not being addressed. As  we approach politics, the society should preach values, integrity, patriotism, honour and gallantry. We should learn to be our brother’s keeper. We are not short of great thinkers, men of great ideas, but we are confronted with depreciation  of values,” he added.

The governor in his characteristic manner  said the country would  achieve its full potentials by pushing the frontiers of values, using education and knowledge to combat the of poverty , diseases and adversity rocking the country.

Earlier, the national president of Ansar -Udeen  Society of Nigeria, Alhaji Femi Okunnu, a former federal minister of works, said the body was currently sensitising its members on the need to participate in the forthcoming  voters registration exercise to be qualified to vote.
