Education Minister Orders Blacklisting of Miracle Centres

The federal government has ordered for immediate blacklisting of examination centres nationwide, identified  to be promoting examination malpractices variously called  ‘’miracle, magic and special centres’’.

The minister of education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i  gave the directive in her office while inaugurating an implementation committee on ‘release my result’ which is charged with ensuring prompt and complete release of candidates’ results in public examinations conducted by WAEC, JAMB, NECO and NABTEB.

Rufai noted that incomplete supply of data by candidates and flagrant violation of examination rules and regulations by various stakeholders, especially involvement in malpractices have been largely responsible for cases of partial or non-release of results.

She charged the committee, which she said is made up of seasoned academics and experienced technocrats, to move quickly towards redressing the perennial complaints and find lasting solutions to the problem of partial or non-release or results.

She enjoined all the examination bodies to establish a framework for sharing information, ideas, experiences and comparing notes with a view to learning good practices from one another and ensuring optimum use of available resources.

The terms of reference for the committee headed by Prof. Garba Dahuwa Azare of Bayero University, Kano include: developing an action plan for the implementation of available recommendations on the subject matter; ensure compliance by the implementing agencies and to perform any other function as may be assigned by the minister.

It would be recalled that the minister constituted a committee on ‘release my result’ as a fallout from the education summit held in June 2010, with a mandate to recommend appropriate strategies to strengthen institutional management of examination bodies.
