Ekiti 2014: I’m ready for you, Fayemi tells opposition
Ekiti, Headlines, State News Monday, September 2nd, 2013From Charles Adegbite, Ado-Ekiti
Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has declared his readiness for opposition from those eyeing his governorship job, including member of his All Progressives Congress (APC) party, saying he has no grudge against them.
Fayemi, while responding to questions from members of the public at the weekend during the August edition of his monthly television programme on EKTV tagged: Meet Your Governor, urged politicians to show their manifestos to the people, rather than whipping up sentiments and emotions to gain popularity.
Fayemi, who responded to the August 23 and 26 violent clash between his supporters and Bamidele’s supporters in Iyin Ekiti, regretted that Ekiti youths had made themselves available as willing tools for the politicians to use for mischievous acts.
He said: “The crisis clearly showed that our youths have become willing tools in the hands of politicians. It shows that we, as government, still have much to be done in the area of youth employment.
“I am one of the politicians, who believe that politics can be done without bitterness.
“Though, we have tried our best by setting up the volunteer corps, EKSTMA, and Ekiti State Peace Corps to employ our youths. But sadly, enough, some of these youths are not making use of these opportunities to better their future.”
He assured that despite the barrage of crises that have been heating up the polity, that his government would put proper security measures in place to reinforce the state’s security network and forestall those he branded as desperate politicians from setting the state on fire in 2014.
The governor also warned members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Ekiti State university chapter against taking law into their hands by declaring industrial action over tax being operated in the institution, saying those who felt overtaxed among them should seek redress at the tax tribunal.
