Fashola’s Cabinet: House Confirms Entire List
Headlines, Lagos, State News Saturday, July 2nd, 2011ALL the 37 cabinet nominees sent to the Lagos State House of Assembly by Governor, Babatunde Fashola, have scaled through the screening process and had their nominations confirmed.
The Speaker, Mr. Ikuforiji Adeyemi, said that 21 of them would be Commissioners while 16 would be Special Advisers.
The exercise, which lasted three days and was done in batches, saw 13 nominees appear before the lawmakers on Wednesday, 12 on Thursday and another 12 on Friday.
Moving the motion for their confirmation, the Leader of the House, Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye (Kosofe I) said all the 37 nominees deserve to be in the state cabinet. The motion was immediately seconded by Yinka Ogundimu (Agege II).
The exercise was, however, not without some drama as former members of the Assembly on the list were simply asked to take a bow and proceed.
One of the nominees, immediate past Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ben Akabueze, prayed for the lawmakers that God would not allow them to die in the course of their legislative duties. It was followed by a resounding amen.
Another nominee, Olutoyin Ademola Ayinde, turned lecturer, as he took time to enlighten the lawmakers.
Asked what he thinks about demolition of buildings Ayinde, a professional Town Planner, replied that throughout his educational career, he never came across a course dubbed ‘Demolition.’
