Fear grips Rivers LG over kidnapped Rep’s whereabouts

Palpable fear has gripped residents of Khana Local Government Area over the whereabouts of a lawmaker representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Deeyah.

Members of Gwara community became apprehensive on Sunday when they learnt that an aide to the lawmaker was killed by the kidnappers.

It will be recalled that unknown gunmen kidnapped Deeyah on Saturday at his residence in Gwara Community in Khana Local Government.

Deeyah was immediately whisked into a waiting vehicle and taken to an unknown destination.

But more than 24 hours after his abduction, the lawmaker was yet to be released, a situation that had put members of his constituency in great fear.

It was, however, gathered that those behind the kidnapping of the lawmaker might be some of the lawmakers “boys,” who felt betrayed over the reconciliation between him and a renowned politician in the state without informing them.

A source said Deeyah was alleged to have received some largesse from the politicians to support his (politician’s) ambition without informing the boys.

It was learnt that no member of the lawmaker’s family had been able to establish contact with the kidnappers since Saturday when Deeyah was abducted.

Speaking on the matter, the River State Assistant Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chijioke Anyalechi, said security agents were yet to get a clue on the whereabouts of the kidnapped lawmaker.

Anyalechi confirmed that the federal lawmaker was abducted on Saturday.

, adding that his whereabouts was still unknown.

He, however, added that security agents in the state were intensifying effort toward ensuring that Deeyah was released in good condition.
