Gunmen kill lecturer in Rivers

A lecturer at the Rivers State College of Arts and Science, Mr. Clement Faar, was one of the two persons shot dead by three gunmen, who stormed his compound at Yeghe in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The other victim, who was identified as a Canada-based Nigerian, Mr. Pius Gbarazia, was with Faar in his compound when both of them were shot.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Dr. Rita Inoma-Abbey, who disclosed this to newsmen on Sunday, said the armed men, who were three in number, raided the compound at about 10pm on Saturday.

Inoma-Abbey, who said the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Kpor received the information on the incident, said that the motive behind the murder of Faar and Gbarazia was still unknown.

“At about 10pm on Saturday, the DPO in charge of Kpor received information that three men operating with a motorcycle shot and killed one Clement Kemte Faar, a lecturer at the College of Arts and Science, Port Harcourt.

“Also killed was one Pius Gbarazia, a Canada-based Nigerian. Both were murdered while they were sitting in front of Clement’s family house in Yeghe.

“Both victims hailed from Yeghe, Gokana Local Government Area. The motive for the killing of the two persons is not clear yet,” the state police spokesperson noted.

She, however, assured that investigation was in top gear to ensure that the hoodlums were apprehended and brought to book.

She said, “Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department joined the Divisional Police Officer immediately after for investigation while several teams of patrol and plain cloth policemen have continued with the trace and arrest efforts.”
