Gunmen kill PDP youth leader in Zamfara

Suspected bandits have killed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Leader in Zamfara State, Alhaji Samaila Zakariya. The PDP youth leader met his untimely death in the early hours of yesterday few kilometres to Funtua, Katsina State on his way to Kaduna, when people suspected to be hired assassins opened fire on his vehicle.

The deceased who was travelling in the same vehicle with his close friend, Alhaji Aminu Matawalle who also the youth chairman for Mamuda Aliyu Shinkafi (MAS) campaign organization in the last April governorship election in the state, suffered gunshot injuries. Matawalle who is being treated for gunshot injuries at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, told Daily Sun on his sick bed that he was only saved by God.

Narrating the incident, Matawalle said the late PDP youth leader was the person driving the vehicle when they sighted a pick up van (Toyota Hilux) trailing them. “Before we knew it they just opened fire on us and they got him (Samaila Zakariya).”

The deceased PDP youth has since been buried according to Islamic rites in Gusau, his home town, meanwhile, people in the state, especially youths have condemned the act and prayed God to expose the culprits. As at the time of filing this report there was no official statement, either from the police or PDP headquarters in the state on the incident.
