Halt the killings, Useni urges Boko Haram

FROM MARIAM ALESHINLOYE AGBOOLA, JOS

Following the twin bombings in Jos on December 11, 2014, which led to the death of about 32 people, the former Minister of the Federal Capital, Lt. Gen. Jerry Useni, has again called on the Boko Haram leaders to make their demands known, instead of these wanton destruction of lives and properties.

Useni, who was speaking to journalists in Jos on the incident said, “We cannot continue like this. We must have peace so that Nigeria can move forward.”

He however urged Nigerians not to lose faith but to have the believe that the insurgency would come to an end because everything that has a beginning must surely have an end.

The Sardauna Plateau and Nasarawa also commended the Nigerian security forces for their efforts in overpowering the insurgents; explaining that the war they are fighting is not an easy one because the enemies are not known and as they fight them the troops also try to safeguard the lives of Nigerians who are either held as captives or are living close to where they operate.

As the Nigerian troops are continuously changing tactics in dealing with the insurgents and are daily recording successes, very soon, with little patience from Nigerians, the troop will overcome them and there will be peace again in the country.

He commended the President for equipping the troops and boosting their morale by catering for their welfare; saying for these reasons Nigerians must continue to give him their support.

Useni, who picked the Peoples Democratic Party ticket for Plateau South senatorial seat also commended the people of Plateau State for conducting peaceful primaries; devoid of boycotts, seizure, or outright cancellation of any result as reported in other places.
