I was in Bankole’s house on social visit -IGP
House, Legislature, Nigerian Police Sunday, June 5th, 2011THE Inspector General of Police (IGP), Hafiz Ringim, has denied preventing the arrest of Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The statement, signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olusola Amore, said the attention of the IGP was drawn to publication in the media that he stopped the arrest of Hon. Bankole and denied directing, instructing the arrest of the former speaker by the EFCC.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the EFCC is not under the control of the Inspector General of Police.
“It was a coincidence that when EFCC operatives came to the house of the Speaker, the IGP paid him a social visit to apologise for not attending a social event which the speaker had invited the IGP”.
“The Inspector General of Police was not aware of the presence of the EFCC at the former speaker’s residence nor did he speak to or interact with EFCC operatives. EFCC is at liberty to invite the former Speaker or anybody without recourse to the IGP,” the statement addedwp_posts
