Identity of policewoman killed in deadly Benue bank robbery revealed

By Rachel Okporu FadojuA policewoman, identified as Emmanuella Ankyov, has been revealed as the security officer among seven people killed during a robbery incident in the Otukpo area of Benue State. Naija News reported that suspected armed robbers, on Friday, at about 3 p.m., invaded several banks in Otukpo, Benue State. The gunmen who shot sporadically reportedly killed residents of Otukpo, Benue State. Seven people, including police officers and a former councillor transacting business in one of the affected banks, were reportedly killed by the suspected robbers who operated for more than an hour. Otukpo is the political seat of Benue South Senatorial District, comprising the Idoma and Igede ethnic groups. An eyewitness, Sunday Abah, who spoke with Daily Post, said the gunmen had been operating for several hours without security intervention. Following the tragic incident, friends and colleagues of the police officers have taken to social media to mourn the deceased.
Meanwhile, a woman, whose identity is yet to be verified, tragically lost her life when a container fell from a trailer at the heavily trafficked Eze-Iweka area near Upper Iweka Bus Stop, along the Onitsha-Owerri Road on Thursday, Naija News learnt. Reports claimed that the tragic incident occurred on Thursday, October 19, while goods were being unloaded from the parked truck by the roadside. Daily Trust quoted an eyewitness to have said that the container unexpectedly fell and collided with the woman who was standing nearby. Confirming the incident, the acting Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Margaret Onabe, said the accident happened at approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday. Onabe attributed the cause of the accident to brake failure and mentioned that the police team made efforts to remove the container. |
