We’re trying to build a peoples-friendly police.
“Our slogan is Operation Restore Hope aimed at restoring the hope of the people in the Nigeria Police,” he said.
The IGP stated said he had already directed the Commissioners of Police in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja to establish Police Peoples Forum where issues bothering on security, community-police relationship and sharing of information, adding that the police would be amenable to constructive criticisms, which could enhance its performance.
He also noted that people had been partnering with the force in the area of information but urged the public to do more, assuring that the police were more ready than before to work harmoniously with the public.
“People have been forthcoming in giving information and this, to me, means that confidence has been re-built,” he added.
He said security was a collective act, even as he appealed to Nigerians to be security conscious. He also said the Federal Government had approved the take off of the Police University at the Police Academy at Wudi, Kano State, adding that the institution would commence full academic activities by September.
