IGP directs SARS operatives to wear uniform
Headlines, Nigerian Police Saturday, January 5th, 2013THE Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has directed all operatives of the special Anti- Robbery Squads in the country to be in their police uniform henceforth.
Informed police source disclosed this to Saturday Tribune on Friday, saying the order followed the infiltration of the Special Anti – Robbery Squad office in Abuja, which led to the escape of some of the Boko Haram group.
The source revealed that the new directive would also enable members of the public to identify operatives of SARS.
It was gathered that the infiltrators who attacked the SARS office could not easily be identified, because the SARS operatives normally appear in mufti.
According to police sources, the attackers played on the fact that SARS operatives were always in mufti to unleash the attack of November 25, 2012 in which over seven people were killed.
Also Saturday Tribune also gathered that the IGP has equally directed that all state SARS must be answerable to the command commissioners of police while the federal SARS are now answerable to the DIG “D”.
This directive strips all SARS offices nationwide the autonomy they used to enjoy.
