IGP Orders Arrest of Police Contractors

Miffed by the attitude of some contractors handling contracts for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Abubakar Ringim, has ordered the arrest of defaulting police contractors, even as he has given them one month with effect from January 7, 2011 to fulfill their contractual agreements or face prosecutions by the police.
A press statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olusola Amore, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and made available to LEADERSHIP, stated that the order was handed down following the comprehensive reports by a Special Task Team charged to authenticate and verify the completion of police projects nationwide.
According to him, in its preliminary investigation report, the team identified some inconsistencies in the execution of police capital projects across the country, including that the police formations and commands nationwide.
The team also found that there was no sign of the execution of a total of 350 projects for which the contractors had received about N4.7 billion.
