Imoke empowers civil servants with cars

The Cross River State Government is commitment to ensuring that workers’ welfare are given due attention seems to be yielding positive results as another set of cicil servants have benefited from the on-going motor vehicle loan scheme for senior public Servants.

The first phase of 100 vehicles was commissioned for use by senior civil servants to ease their mobility problems in 2008. And on ….. history was again recorded as the second phase of the motor vehicle loan scheme for senior civil/public servants was launched with 50 senior workers as beneficiaries.
Of course, this is made possible through concerted efforts especially through our Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative intended to address most of some challenges facing civil servants and public workers as government alone cannot do it all for its citizens.

The government says will continue to woo more private investors to identify with its policies directed at improving the welfare of its workers so that they can continue to give their best in terms of service delivery.
Commissioning the second phase of the motor vehicle loan scheme for senior civil/public Servants in the State, Governor Liyel Imoke said the occasion coming barely few days after the April general elections was timely, as it showed that government remains doggedly resolute to elevate the status, wellbeing and productivity of its workers inspite of other competing demands.

“Our challenges as a government are many, but the resources are lean. However, we will stop at nothing to ensure that we give our citizens and indeed our workers the very best”, he said and saluted the courage and confidence its private partner, Austinicks Consulting Limited, has demonstrated towards the scheme as the State is blessed with boundless investment opportunities which he urged investors to explore more and more, he stated.

He emphasized the administration’s readiness to look into the welfare of civil/public servants who are partners in progress in the collective drive to make Cross River a better place for all, adding that it has noted with concern the various welfare challenges that confront them in the discharge of their duties.

According to him, “such challenges include residential accommodation, mobility especially in the face of insufficient pool vehicles and will continue to woo more private investors to identify with its policies directed at improving the welfare of its workers so that they can continue to give their best in terms of service delivery.”
Mrs. Mary I Olayi, Head of Service, in an introductory remark, said the scheme has expanded to include not only senior civil servants outside the directorate cadre, but also directors in the Unified Local Government Service Commission.

Olayi explained that the ongoing scheme is run on the repayment period of five years or sixty equal monthly installments, Comprehensive Insurance for three years, and irrevocable domiciliation of beneficiaries salary account with sponsoring bank, EcoBank, disclosing that the fifty beneficiaries of the first batch have been carefully selected to ensure that they complete payment before retirement from service while the subsequent batch shall take its turn not long.

She, however, hinged the three year interval between the first and second phases on the global economic recession with its attendant negative impact on both the finance houses and the automobile industry which seriously hindered its private partners, from assisting its effort along this direction.
Mr. Jide Enitan of Austinicks Consultant Limited, suppliers of the cars, commended the State government for partnering it to motivate civil servants to boost productivity and service delivery.
Mrs. Neka Takon on behalf of the beneficiaries, in appreciation, referred to Imoke as a listening governor, as they felt highly motivated to enhance service delivery while those yet to benefit will be spurred to work harder, promising that they will pay back the loan as when due and urged other beneficiaries to work harder to reciprocate the State government.
