IG directs air-tight security for Eid-Fitr (Didn’t direct same for xmas celebrations)
Latest Politics, Nigerian Police Sunday, August 19th, 2012To ensure a peaceful and incident free Sallah celebration, the Inspector-General of Police in Nigeria, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, has directed all zonal Assistant Inspector-Generals to take adequate measures to ensure security across the country.
He also mandated State Police Commissioners to personally ensure that places of worship, recreation centres, resorts and other public places were adequately and effectively protected.
In addition, all zonal Assistant Inspector Generals and State Commissioners of Police were directed to provide 24-hours security around all government installations, facilities and valuable targets.
The Inspector-General advised officers and men to at all times, comport themselves within the confines of the law.
Similarly, Mr. Abubakar urged members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers to assist the Nigerian police in fighting violence.
At a meeting officials of the transport workers’ union in Abuja, the Inspector General said this was to ensure the security of lives and property on roads in Nigeria.
Mr. Abubakar explained how they could collaborate with security agencies in efforts to ensure the protection of lives and property on the roads.
He advised the transporters to ensure that their vehicles were not used for illegal activities such as carrying drugs and ammunitions. He stressed: “The Police will not fail in its duties on the roads but will not disturb transporters without cause.”
Mr. Abubakar urged the Union to educate their members on accurate road use codes. He also warned transporters to be cautious of the activities in the motor parks, while seeking their support and partnership to address the menace of drugs in motor parks.
