Jonathan Not Influencing Me – IGP
Latest Politics, Nigerian Police Tuesday, March 8th, 2011The inspector-general of police (IGP) Alhaji Hafiz Abubakar Ringim, at the weekend, said that President Goodluck Jonathan did not in any way influence his running of the Nigeria Police ahead of the 2011 general elections. He also argued that there was no police action that justifiably proved that it was favoring the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and muzzling opposition.
In an interview with the BBC Hausa Section monitored in Kaduna, Ringim said, “Listen to me, you journalist, presently in Nigeria, there is no police officer that is more experienced and qualified than me. Regarding my relationship with the president that is your imagination but I tell you that is not what you think. Wait until you see abnormalities then you can come with proves but now you have no single case and all these things you are saying are just your own imaginations”.
He further said that contrary to insinuations, the force was able and has the capacity to put at bay challenges, and said, “Check all that has been happening in other countries and you will know that we are doing well here. Look at what is happening in the Arab world is that half of what is happening here? Within the past six months that I assumed duties, we have recorded success against corruption and in justice that used to dominate the force”.
