Igbo leaders in Lagos, on Thursday, ordered the closure of markets as a mark of respect for the late Ikemba of Nnewi, Chief Chukwu Odumegwu Ojukwu. The affected markets are Ladipo Spare Parts Market; Alaba International Market; Trade Fair Market; Idumota market and Computer Village.

The closure was in response to the call by the leadership of the ethnic group nationwide that people from the South-East geopolitical zone, especially traders, should close their stalls as a mark of respect for the late Biafran leader, Chief Ojukwu.

In compliance with his directive, most of the traders at the Ladipo market and Computer Village, Ikeja, were seen discussing in groups the life and death of Ojukwu, describing him as “leader of leaders.”

While the affected markets were put under locks and keys, Nigerians from all walks of life gathered at the popular Tafawa Balawa Square, Lagos Island Local Government area of the state, to pay their last respect.
