Lekki International Airport To Gulp N102.4bn
Headlines, Lagos, State News Friday, May 6th, 2011Fresh facts have emerged that Lekki international Airport an alternative airport to Murtala Mohammed Airport being built by the Lagos State government in the state is to gulp a whooping $650 Million (N102.4 billion) .
The Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry ,Prince Adeniyi Oyemade, who revealed this on Friday while briefing Journalists said the airport is designed with an international standard and capacity to handle about 5million passenger annually with a modular terminal for future expansion.
He pointed out that approval had been given to conduct the Environmental Impact Assessment, topographical and geotechnical surveys of the land area earmarked for the project, adding that site clearance, construction of access road, the runway and perimeter fence will begin any moment soon.
The commissioner while highlighting the activities of the ministry in the last four years, said the government has concluded plans on the establishment of enterprise zones in the three senatorial districts of the state.
Oyemade, explained that the three sites have been cleared and fenced while the next stage will be the provision of required facilities “which we hope to achieve before the end of this year”.
“They are being sited at Ibeju Agbe, Ibeju-Lekki, Oto-Awori Ijanikin, and Oke-Olokun near Ikorodu” he added.
Also speaking on the development of the project , the Special Adviser to the state governor on commerce and industry, Mrs. Sola Oworu, said the international airport is conceived as public/private sector project, pointing out that plans are in the offing for its take-off within the next two years.
She explained that the involvement of private investors in the development of the airport, was because the project is economically viable.
