New AIGs yet to resume – Police
Nigerian Police Wednesday, March 21st, 2012The newly promoted Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) have not assumed office, hence there is no basis for their predecessors staying away from office, Force Headquarters said yesterday
The police headquarters’ pronouncement was a reaction to our lead story yesterday entitled: Confusion at Police HQ (Retired AIGs order newly promoted officers to quit).
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officers (FPRO), Mr. Olusola E. Amore, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), yesterday said: “To keep the records straight, there was no incidence or event at the Force Headquarters that warranted such a misleading caption. The story is false in its entirety and therefore, a mere figment of the writer’s imagination.
“The newly promoted AIGs are yet to be officially posted in line with their new ranks. Thus, the issue of one set of AIGs ‘ordering’ another set out of their offices couldn’t have arisen at all.
“The Nigeria Police is a highly regimented organization whose foundation is built on respect for constituted authority, order and discipline. Therefore the impression of near state of anarchy, confusion and lawlessness as portrayed in the publication is alien to the force.
“The newspaper under reference is a well-respected newspaper which is not expected to go to the press with such a damming story without proper confirmation from the authority concerned.
“The Inspector General of Police wishes to use this medium to remind the media of their importance and strategic role in national security and nation building and urges them to continue to play this role constructively.”
Our source misconstrued the presence of the former AIGs at the police headquarters wearing their uniforms to mean there was confusion, whereas no such incident was intended by the outgoing officers.
Recall that Daily Sun made several calls and sent text messages to the Force Public Relations office on Monday, none of them was attended to.
