New GOC assumes duty at Nigerian Army 2 Division headquarters Ibadan

By Oluwatoyin MalikA new General Officer Commanding, 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Obinna Onubogu, on Wednesday assumed duty at the headquarters at Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo, Ibadan, Oyo State. Major General Onubogu, who is the 46th GOC of the Division, took over from Major General Bamidele Alabi after his appointment to the position. At the handing and taking over ceremony between the erstwhile GOC and General Onubogu, according to a statement by the 2 Division’s Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye, The new GOC expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, for entrusting him with the stewardship of commanding the 2 Division. He affirmed his continuous loyalty to the COAS and the nation, as he carries out military duties in his new appointment. He added that the new phase of his career, would be another opportunity for him to defend the values, interests and territory of Nigeria under the nation’s constitution and directive of the COAS. General Onubogu assured that the Division would do all required to sustain the commendable efforts of his predecessor to adequately protect and secure its Area of Responsibility (AOR). He urged commanders and staff officers of 2 Division to focus all efforts towards achieving the objectives of the COAS’ command philosophy. He also stressed on the imperative to improve operations, sustain capabilities, training, administration and troops welfare. The GOC also promised to continue to support the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and other security agencies to ensure a more secure internal environment within 2 Division’s Area of Responsibility. He further charged all officers and soldiers of the Division to remain focused and committed to the act of defending the nation against external aggressions and other security challenges. -Nigerian Tribune |
