Nigeria Still Redeemable –Bishop Badejo •As Fayemi Buries Mum
Ekiti, Headlines, State News Saturday, May 19th, 2012THE Catholic Bishop of Oyo Diocese, Most Reverend Emmanuel Badejo, on Friday, expressed the hope that Nigeria could still be pulled back from the brinks, if the people were willing to put the fear God in their dealings.
Bishop Badejo made the remarks in his homily at the funeral mass for Mrs. Dorcas Aina Fayemi, the mother of the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, at Isan-Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The cleric called on politicians and people in power to desist from acts capable of creating violence in the country, saying “time is now to redeem our values and re-organise our priorities.”
Quoting from the Biblical books of Philippines, Sirach etc, Bishop Badejo said: “Let us take God seriously. We Nigerians are well known for our religious fervour. But we are better known for our crass but elusive quest for wealth, power, status and significance. Our presence at this funeral is another wake up call; another divine teaching aid that one day it will end.”
He said time was now for Nigerians to make a change, adding “it is now time to make a change. When our leaders call themselves thieves and robbers on prime time television, our children are not edified.”
Speaking on behalf of the family, Governor Fayemi thanked the guests from far and wide for joining him in giving a befitting funeral for his late mother whom he described as “mother and mentor,” and announced that the Fayemi family of Isan-Ekiti would donate N10 million to the construction of a Mission House for St. Martin’s Catholic Church in memory of their mother.
