Oil theft: Shell shuts down 150,000 BPD facility
Headlines, Oil Politics Monday, October 1st, 2012NIGERIA’S daily crude output suffered a setback on Sunday, as Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) shut its Bomu-Bonny Trunkline, translating to a 150,000 barrels per day shut in.
A statement issued on behalf of the SPDC by its Corporate Media Relations Manager, Tony Okonedo, said the decision to shut the trunkline was as a result of damage done to it by crude oil thieves in the area.
According to the statement, a fire was discovered on a portion of the trunkline, as well as a vessel thought to be involved in oil theft around Okololunch community in Rivers State.
It further said the company was mobilising to fight the fire, investigate the cause and carry out repairs.
