Robbers routed in Ekiti…Abandon 3 vehicles, run into bush

A gang of armed robbers yesterday stormed Ifaki-Ekiti, a town in Ido-Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State and robbed a first generation bank. The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Sotonye Wakama, who confirmed the incident disclosed that after a gun duel, the police recovered three vehicles from the armed bandits who came in large number.
It was gathered that none of the robbers was arrested after the exchange of gunshots with his men at Aramoko Ekiti. They were said to have fled into the bush and abandoned three of their vehicles. This, according to the police boss was possible after the men of the under-world had been overwhelmed by the police.
The police commissioner revealed that the robbers, who drove in convoy of four vehicles, invaded Ifaki Ekiti at about 12.30pm and headed straight to the police station in the town and fired sporadically at his men.
He said they immediately proceeded to the bank, situated very close to the police station,where they gained entry and carted away undisclosed amount. DailySun gathered that nobody was killed during the attack on the police station and the robbery operation at the bank, Wakama said after the robbers succeeded in robbing the bank , they headed towards Aramoko Ekiti, where they ran into his men, who had barricaded the road based on his order that all the exit and entry routes in the state should be blocked.
He said the police were already trailing the bandits from Ifaki-Ekiti before they ran into his men at Aramoko Ekiti. His words; “They came in convoy of four cars this afternoon and invaded a police station at Ifaki-Ekiti before they robbed a nearby bank.
None of my men was wounded during the attack and we could not find out how much they stole at the bank during the operation. He added that the police would ensure that they apprehend the robbers very soon.
