SNC, panacea for Nigeria’s problems – South-South Assembly
Latest Politics, South-South Monday, March 19th, 2012The South-South Peoples Assembly (SSPA) has said the convocation of a Sovereign National Conference is the antidote to the myriad of problems confronting the nation, urging the government to exploit it to strengthen the unity and peaceful co-existence among the various ethnic nationalities in the country.
It warned the Federal Government not to ignore the agitation for convocation of the Sovereign National Conference by some pressure groups and geopolitical zones, just as it described the recent clamour by notable opinion leaders from the northern part of the country for the convocation of a constitutional conference as a welcome development.
In a press statement signed by the national chairman and secretary of the South-South Peoples Assembly, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and Chief Ayakeme Whisky respectively, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune in Yenagoa, the group observed that the Nigerian federation was structurally and operationally defective and therefore, required major restructuring for it to survive as a nation.
It expressed optimism that several knotty and fundamental issues, which are critical to the continued existence and unity of the nation could only be tackled when representatives of the different ethnic groupings converged to brainstorm on such issues.
