Stampede: Akpabio, First Ladies condole with Jonathan, Amaechi
General Politics Sunday, February 13th, 2011PORT HARCOURT —The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has condoled with President Goodluck Jonathan, over the unfortunate stampede that led to the death of some Nigerians in Port Harcourt, during the South-South Presidential rally of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, weekend.
his came as the First Ladies of Rivers and Bayelsa States, Mrs Judith Amaechi and Mrs Alayingi Sylva, have condoled with families of those who died in the stampede.
The duo who expressed shock at the sad development also prayed for the quick recovery of the wounded in hospital in Port Harcourt.
Akpabio in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Usoro I. Usoro, also condoled with his colleague, the host Governor, Chief Chibuike Amaechi, over the unfortunate incident, which he described as an “unfortunate and shocking tragedy of unimaginable proportion.”
He noted that the deceased persons and scores of those injured in the stampede were part of the teaming crowd of supporters that thronged the Liberation Stadium to show overwhelming solidarity to their son, Mr President.
The Governors’ wives said, this was not a time to shift blame but to pray for the departed and for God to grant the families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Amaechi Campaign group commiserates with victims
The Amaechi 2011 Re-Election Campaign Organisation has commiserated with the families of those who were affected in the sad incident that occurred at the Peoples Democratic party, PDP, Presidential Campaign flag-off for the South-South zone in Port Harcourt, weekend.
“It is unfortunate that such an incident occurred at such a time when Nigerians and indeed Rivers people are willing to express commitment to the electoral process of electing their preferred candidates into office,” Chief Nyesom Wike, the campaign Director said in a statement.
“We pray God to grant the affected families the fortitude to bear the loss and wish those injured and are in hospital quick recovery.
“We are aware that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the dreary incident. This investigation must be thorough to ensure that such an incident never repeats itself,” he added.
