Tears as actress Bisi Komolafe is buried
Arts/Culture & Entertainment, Headlines, Nollywood (Film Industry) Saturday, January 5th, 2013It was tears galore at Oke Padre, Oke-Itunu and Soka areas of Ibadan, Oyo State capital, as the remains of the deceased Yoruba film actress, Bisi Komolafe, was buried. As early as 8am, actors and actresses under the aegis of Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners converged at the University College Hospital mortuary to receive the body of the deceased.
For most of the actors and actresses in attendance, it was a loss too much for them to bear as they wore black T-shirts with inscription of Abeni Ija Sun Re o (Rest in peace). The mourners recounted memories and moments shared with the late Komolafe. Her sisters, Bukky and Tinuke, wept uncontrollably as the corpse was being prepared for final burial rites. One of her colleagues, Mr Bolaji Amusan (a.k.a Baba Latin), described Komolafe’s death as “very shocking, sad and unexpected.”
He said that her committal could be likened to the burial of a bunch of talents, courage and humility. He said: “Bisi Komolafe was a promising upcoming actress. She was just too cool and too nice to be ignored. The family should take solace in the fact that to die young when the ovation is loudest is better than to leave the stage unsung.
I want other upcoming actors and actresses to take a cue from her lifestyle. “As for her family members, I urge them to take solace in God, the giver of life. God gave her to us and at His own time, He decided to take her away.” Komolafe, 27, who some of her colleagues described as an easy-going talent, was hospitalised at the UCH recently.
She was said to be responding to treatment but her condition relapsed two weeks ago. Her sister, Bunmi had raised the alarm about the deceased’s deteriorating health condition. She was rushed back to UCH as a result of her worsening health. She was said to have taken more than 30 units of blood before she passed on. The deceased, who was said to be few weeks pregnant while she was indisposed, later lost the pregnancy as a result of complications arising from her sickness.
Her friend, who preferred anonymity, said: “Her pregnancy was aborted at the hospital (not UCH). I don’t want to comment more on that, but that is the truth. I learnt they had to do it to save her life when it appeared she might lose it eventually.” However, she eventually died at the UCH on Tuesday morning. Her funeral service held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Oke Padre, Ibadan, was attended by budding and upcoming artistes.
Among them were Yinka Quadri, Bimbo Oshin, Moji Olaiya and Ayo Adesanya. Others in attendance were Muyiwa Ademola , Femi Adebayo, Toyin Adegbola (a.k.a Asewo tore Mecca), Tayo Adeleye, Toyosi Arigbabuwo. ??In his sermon, the Cathedral Administrator, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Benedict Ugwoegbu, said, “Death is no respecter ?Of anybody. Everybody’s turn will come; do not let your hearts be troubled, trust in God. ”
As humans we do not have any right to complain. When man was brought to life there was no bargain, so there was no bargaining when the deceased was taken away. It has pleased God to take her life. We should be prepared for the coming of the Son of Man (Jesus). ??Others presenton were the Chairman of ANTP, Lagos State, Akeem Alimi (a.k.a Ajala Jalingo), Jibola Dabo, Ireti Osayemi, Razaq Olayiwola (a.k.a ojo Pagogo), Sunny Alil, Fathia Balogun, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Taiwo Hassan (a.k.a.
