Why we closed down 15 companies – C-River govt
Cross River, Headlines, State News Friday, October 26th, 2012THE Cross River State government has given reasons why 15 companies operating in Akamkpa Local Government of the state were closed down, saying that the government cannot fold its arms watching some people to exploit and defraud the state.
The companies which operate on mining and quarrying of granites in the area were said to have been shut as a result of disagreement between the state government and the communities on collection of revenue.
It was alleged that the companies entered into an understanding with the host communities to be paying certain levy to the communities as a way of compensating them over the environmental degradation and loss of arable lands for farming as a major means of livelihood sustainability.
