Women task govt on Boko Haram sponsors

Worried by the upsurge in  violence in some states in the North, the Women General Assembly of the Tarraya Ekklisiyoyi Kristi A Nigeria (Fellowship of the Churches of Christ in Nigeria) on Saturday in Kaduna urged the government to punish anyone funding the violent acts in the region.

The General Assembly of the fellowship also known as TEKAN appealed to the government to identify those involved in promoting violence in any part of the country and deal with them, no matter their status.

The leader of the TEKAN Women General Assembly, Mrs. Naomi Mankilik, stated this while addressing a news conference at the end of the 37th meeting of the assembly in Kaduna.

Mankilik said the Federal Government should refrain from shielding or treating any suspected sponsor of terrorism or violence in any part of the country with any kid gloves or favouritism.

Protecting such persons she said, would be to the detriment of the country, especially the women and children whom she argued were usually at the receiving end of any form of crisis or threat to the security and stability.

She stressed that the insecurity brought about by the recent upsurge in violence and terrorist acts perpetrated by some groups had become a source of serious worry for all Nigerians, particularly those in the North.

She said, “The threat to security has become a thing of concern; hence women and children are being slaughtered like animals almost on a daily basis.”
