How I narrowly escaped DANA plane crash —Uranta
Headlines Friday, June 8th, 2012THE Executive Secretary of the National Summit Group, Tony Uranta, in Lagos, on Wednesday, said that he would have been involved in the Dana Air plane crash if not for the advice of an undisclosed staff of the Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Briefing newsmen, the Niger Delta activist, who attributed his escape to divine intervention disclosed that he was booked to leave on that ill-fated flight but made a U-turn and opted for Arik Airline.
Narrating his experience, Uranta said “on Sunday, l was booked to leave on that ill-fated flight and l got to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja as scheduled, but was surprised when the management of the airline announced to the passengers that the flight would be delayed a little.
“While waiting at the lounge, a staff of the FAAN (name withheld) walked to me and said he would advise me not to wait for that flight, adding that Dana flight had been unsteady in the past three days.
“Most of their planes were developing faults and necessary repairs have been carried out on them at every airport they landed. He was not talking of possible crash or fear, but the delay and other inconveniences it might cause me and l asked if he can assist in selling Dana ticket and get refund and possibly book me for another flight and he obliged and place me on Arik Airline.”
According to Uranta, barely one hour after he landed at the Lagos airport, he heard that the same aircraft that he should have boarded crashed and all the 153 passengers on board died.
“I have escaped death in various ways in the past 22 years. l was thrown from a storey building by an overzealous military intelligence in 1997 and hooked up in lkoyi cemetery for six months. I have had two strokes and cancer of the colon and also a brain surgery. I know that God loves me,” he said.
