110 houses washed away in Katsina villages
Katsina, State News Saturday, August 20th, 2011About 110 houses have been washed away in Baure and Garki villages in Baure Local Government Area of Katsina State following a heavy down pour.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, started around 6 am and lasted for about five hours.
The flood was blamed on blocked drainages, even as most of the houses affected were on water ways.
Most people affected by the rainfall have taken refuge with relations and neighbours.
One of the victims, Ibrahim Sani Baure, lost four of his houses, goats and sheep in the flood.
In Garki village, Idi Abdu Garki, who informed that several houses were destroyed during the rain, also lost his four room abode.
Yakubu Abbas who lost his only house in the disaster, appealed to the state government and local council to come to their aid, stressing that “all hope for help is now on them.”
While inspecting the affected areas, the acting council chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Matazu, directed that immediate clearing of the market drainages be done.
Matazu also constituted a 6-man committee, to carry out the necessary assessment and make a report available for submission to the state government for needed assistance.
