14 persons arrested in Bayelsa
Bayelsa, State News Tuesday, April 26th, 2011Eight persons including a mobile policeman were reportedly arrested at Amassoma in the Southern Ijaw council area of Bayelsa State over their alleged involvement in acts inimical to the electoral process.
This is just as six suspected thugs were Tuesday arrested at Opokuma in the Okolokuma-Opokuma local government area of Bayelsa State following a botched attempt to disrupt the exercise in one of the polling units.
Though the identity of the other arrested persons at Amassoma could not be immediately ascertained a security source told Vanguard that they were apprehended by men of the Joint Task Force station around the gateway to Ebeni and Okumbiri communities in the creek of Sagbama.
However the arrested thugs at Igbainwari polling unit at Opokuma were reportedly over powered by the vigilant community youths while their alleged leader a former chairman of the council was said to have escaped with with some injuries.
The subdued invaders were tied down and handed over to a police patrol team and were being driven away in white Toyota hilux with Rivers state plate number when newsmen got to the community.
Contacted the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Shinaba Adenrele confirmed the arrest of some persons but could not ascertain where they were apprehended.
Mr. Adenrele who was at Otuoke home town of Mr. President to personally monitor the exercise could not confirmed if a policeman was actually arrested assured that the the matter would be given the deserved attention with a view to bringing to book all those found culpable.
