15 armed robbery suspects killed in Yola
Adamawa, Headlines, State News Thursday, August 11th, 2011No fewer than 15 armed robbers with sophisticated weapons have been gunned down by the special anti-robbery squad while a number of sophisticated arms were recovered across Adamawa State. The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Aderenle Shinaba, who disclosed to newsmen while parading the syndicate yesterday, in Yola, also said the syndicate had terrorized innocent citizens in the Yola metropolis and its environs.
Shinaba said it was part of the efforts of the command to stem the tide of crime rate in the state, hence, the need for members of the public to give useful information to the command, which would be treated with high degree of confidentiality. The Police said on August 10, 2011, at about 5p.m he got a tip-off that a syndicate was operating along Mayo-Belwa-Zing Road, hence, men of the command swung into action along with the men of Ali Kwara, who gunned down some members of the syndicate.
“On getting to the spot, the armed robbers opened fire on our men, who responded and killed two of them. The third person, a driver, Mohammed Adamu alias Number Six, was arrested by our men,” he said.
The driver was said to have informed the police that he had been recruited to transport arms for the gang.
Items recovered by the police included three AK 47 rifles, four magazine painted in police colours and 205 round of live ammunition.
