$180m Halliburton scam: Court grants EFCC leave

An Abuja High Court sitting in Maitama, yesterday, granted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, leave to arraign six Nigerians accused of complicity in the $180 million Halliburton bribery scam.

Justice Ishaq Bello who gave the anti-graft agency the nod equally fixed January 27, 2011, to take the plea of all the accused persons.

Those to be arraigned are Ibrahim Aliyu, Mohammed Bakari, Urban Shelter Limited, Intercellular Nigeria Limited, Sherwood Petroleum Limited and Tri-Star Investment Limited.

The EFCC had on December 17, filed a 9-count criminal charge against the six accused persons.

Spokesperson for the EFCC, Mr. Femi Babafemi who made this disclosure to Vanguard yesterday, further said the commission had successfully used the plea bargain arrangement to recover over $120 million from some multinational firms and their officials indicted in the bribery scam in addition to repatriation of another $130 million trapped in a Swiss bank.wp_posts
