2 Cops Die In Accident Involving Shekarau’s Convoy
Kano, State News Thursday, December 30th, 2010A fatal motor accident involving a 14-seater bus in an advance party convoy of Kano State governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau has claimed the lives of two police officers attached to the convoy.
In addition to the two dead policemen, seven other persons, mostly journalists, have sustained various degrees of injuries. Three of them are currently on admission in a Kaduna hospital due to the seriousness of their injuries.
LEADERSHIP investigations revealed that the police men met their death when a tyre of the bus burst, which caused the vehicle to somersault.
The accident occurred around Gonin Gora village after the new Kaduna flyover on the Kaduna-Abuja expressway. The convoy was said to be going ahead of the governor who was travelling to Abuja by air.
Both the police spokesperson, ASP Magaji Musa Majiya and the special assistant to the governor on media, Malam Sule Yau Sule have confirmed the incident.
Though, police authorities declined to reveal the names of the deceased officers, a source named the victims as Sergeant Jonathan and Constable Zubairu.
Malam Sule described the accident as regrettable, saying the government is already taking care of those who are receiving medical attention as a result of the accidentwp_posts
