2011 polls: How Army arrested 108 suspects

Soldiers from the 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan, said over 108 hoodlums and political thugs were arrested at the last gubernatorial and state Assembly elections.

Dangerous weapons such as machetes, dynamites, axe, dane guns, locally made pistols, 7.62mm live rounds of ammunitions, charms, cartridges, mobile phones were recovered from the hoodlums, among them women in different states under the area of responsibility of 2 Division.
The Assistant Director in charge of Public Relations, Colonel Ochgwaba in a press statement said 31 persons, including a lady were arrested at Olomi in Ibadan with live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, dane guns, machetes, locally made pistol, axe, mobile phones, 27 cartridges and charms, while 40 thugs who claimed to be railway workers with no proof of identification were arrested at Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State.

One Adebisi Kunle of Agowande in  Osogbo, Osun State who was arrested with a pistol containing 11 live rounds of ammunition and an INEC registration card belonging to one Aworemi Wale and charms, told the soldiers during interrogation that the pistol belonged to one Hon. Remi Aworemi.
Six thugs allegedly brought from Lagos by one legislator to disrupt elections were arrested  at a hotel at Owode, Egba, while four others were arrested thumb printing ballot papers in a primary school at Opete Community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State and seven others arrested at Imale primary school polling unit in Edo State for alleged involvement in a fracas that led to the destruction of electoral materials in the area.

The soldiers also recovered some objects suspected to be dynamites sealed in a waterproof bag from some suspects at Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State and called in the bomb disposal squad from the police to diffuse the IED, while some persons who attacked the supervisor of Ward 8 Ekiagbode in three speed boats and collected all their electoral materials were intercepted and two of them arrested.
Also arrested was an ACN supervisor for Ibadan North West in a vehicle with Registration number Lagos HW 324 AAA for unauthorized movement and mobilization and found with a large sum of money while a female NYSC corps member and INEC ad –hoc staff was arrested while thumb printed ballot papers at Ward 1 Unit 5 in Ele polling centre of Ibokun in Obokun Local Government Area and five others arrested at ATK polling station at Odelana Sagamu for destroying electoral materials while two persons were arrested for snatching ballot boxes in the area of Babapupa polling unit Odeda local government Area.
