2015: IBB Unfolds Plan • As Group Plans to Ambush Mark
Ibrahim Babangida (1985-93), Latest Politics, Presidency Saturday, September 10th, 2011Former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, is still keen on contesting the 2015 presidential election, sources have said. General Babangida lost out to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2011 race when he joined the search for a common Northern candidate under the aegis of the Northern Political Leaders Forum(NPLF) headed by former Minister of Finance, Alhaji Adamu Ciroma. The forum picked Atiku ahead of Babangida, General Aliyu Gusau and former governor of Kwara state, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
Notwithstanding insinuations by the former military president that he would be too old to contest the 2015 election, it was gathered that the General has concluded plans to take another shot at the Presidency in 2015.
It was confirmed that Babangida is eyeing a running mate from the South East and that he hopes to win over the South East voters with a juicy proposal.
The proposal, according to sources, indicates that he would not only pick his runnming mate from the zone but that IBB would offer to rule for only two years with a promise that he would hand over the reins of power to his Vice President.
Meanwhile, Senate President, David Mark would have to be watching his back from now on as build up to 2015 begins to gathers momentum gradually, just as a group of young Turks from across the north are angling to whittle down his political influence ahead of 2015.
The northern youths with radical bent are now operating on the aegis of Arewa Forum For Return of Power to the North are already canvassing the view that should the political power of Nigeria return to the north by 2015, the beneficiary must come from core north and north from Middle Belt where David Mark is standing as the rock of Gibraltar.
The group led by a Sokoto born business mogul, Adamu Gumel Adamu, based in London are already rallying forces outside the country to fight the cause of the core north in the next political dispensation with a view to discouraging the current senate president from taking the slot of the North.
