2/3 Of Nigerian Judges Doomed For Hell – Justice Abimbola

Two-third of judges in Nigeria would end up in hell fire while only one third of them would enjoy eternity in Paradise, a High Court justice, Justice Siyan Abimbola said in Ibadan during the weekend at a symposium.

The symposium titled Election Petition and Electoral offences in Nigeria: can the judicial lessons of the past shape 2011? has in attendance and participants a eminent jurists and legal practitioners of repute. It was organized to mark the 10th anniversary of “Nigerian Supreme Court quarterly Law Reports” of Barrister Funmilayo Quadri, the Editor-in-chief of the law journal.

Justice Abimbola said that there were three categories of judges but two of the categories because of their unprofessional conduct, would end their life in hell fire.

According to him, the two categories who know the correct laws but for their personal interests, decided to interpret the law and give judgment to suit their own selfish end would end up in hell fire adding that the only one for eternity is the one who knows the correct laws and interprets it correctly.

Justice Abimbola referred to many allegations against some judges appealed to his colleagues at the bench to resist the temptations of politicizing proceedings in their courts.

He said that it was unfortunate to hear the remarks that justice is for sale in the country warning that judges should remember their oath of office..

Justice P. O Aderemi, the Chairman of the Symposium commended Mrs. Funmi Quadri, the Editor in Chief of the “Nigerian Supreme Court Quarterly Law Reports” for her intellectual contribution to law profession.

He advised politicians to impress it on their supporters to operate within the limits of the law adding “let all voters not mortgage their conscience and go ahead to sell their votes to money bags”.

To the judges he said “do not give in to any force other than your conscience in the discharge of your judicial assignments. I have no doubt that the lessons we have all learnt through court pronouncements would help us a lot.
