Edo state governor Adams Oshiomhole, who describes the ongoing election as peaceful, has said that Edo people were now ready to accept and celebrate democracy.
Oshiomhole, who voted at exactly 11:16 am at Iyamho Primary School (unit 02 of Ward 10 in Etsako West LGA, however, told newsmen that he had reports of a stolen card reader and shooting in some voting centers in Edo central senatorial district.
“My joy is that the people are ready to celebrate and accept democracy. I received a report from Esan central LGA that a card reader was stolen. There is also report of shooting in Emu in Esan West LGA to scare voters.”
Both Esan central and Esan West LGAs are in Edo central senatorial district. Former chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP Chief Tony Anenih hails from.
The zone is considered the stronghold of the opposition party.
Meanwhile, in Ogbona, Etsako central LGA, where the state chairman of the PDP Dan Orbih voted, the election, which witnessed large turnout of voters, was peaceful.
Although Orbih declined to assess the exercise, a chieftain of the party Mrs. Evelyn Igbafe said there was no problem, adding that the people were voting according to their consciences.
Igbafe, however, expressed hope that her party would win the election saying “we want to change the change. There was a fake change which we must change through this election.”
