Court dismisses Pedro’s suit against Fashola, Lagos Assembly

A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, on Thursday, dismissed the suit filed by a former deputy governor of Lagos State, Mr Femi Pedro, against the state House of Assembly and state government.

Pedro had filed the case in 2007, to ask the court to make an order declaring his impeachment as deputy governor of Lagos State null and void.

Pedro was challenging the propriety of his impeachment by the state House of Assembly on May 10, 2007, as he had resigned his appointment two days earlier.

When the case came up for hearing, Justice Ye-tunde Idowu, in a ruling, dismissed the case on technicl grounds.

The suit was dismissed because it was brought before the court under origimating summons rather than the required writ of summons.

According to the originating summons filed by his counsel, Pedro was asking the court to declare that he resigned his office as deputy governor of Lagos State on May 8, 2007, and was, therefore, entitled to all the benefits of the office enjoyed by a former occupant, including pension.
