Uba’s election Upheld
Anambra, Legislature, National Politics, Senate, State News Friday, July 15th, 2011
Elections Tribunal sitting in Awka Anambra State, Friday, upheld the election of Senator Andy Uba to represent Anambra South Senatorial district of the state.
The tribunal dismissed the petition by Mr Nicholas Ukachukwu, who had challenged the declaration of Senator Uba as winner of the election for the senatorial district by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The tribunal held that Uba was the duly nominated senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the said election, as Ukachukwu’s petition lacked substance.
Uba emerged the senatorial candidate at the primaries of the state PDP congress, whose executive, an Abuja High Court had declared as the legal executive of the party,in the state while Ukachukwu emerged at a primaries purportedly organised by the party’ national officers, sent from the national office of the party in Abuja.
It will be recalled that the tribunal had earlier thrown out the petition by wife of former Senate President, Mrs Margery Okadigbo against a former Minister of State, Mr John Emeka and that of Chuma Nzeribe against Senator Andy Uba.
