Amnesty shoots oil output to 2.5m bpd – Orubebe

Minister of Niger Delta, Elder Godsday Orubebe yesterday said that the region has helped to shoot up oil out put to 2.5million barrels per day.

Orubebe at the Sectorial Achievements to mark 100 days in office of President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja, claimed that it was the peace in the Niger Delta region in recent time that facilitated increase of oil production in the country from 750,000 barrels per day to 2.5 million.

He stressed that the Amnesty programme of the Federal Government paved the way for peace in the region, and that many infrastructural developments at high level of completion are presently going-on in the region.

He said, “The Ministry in particular has embarked on number of development projects which include roads, housing estates, skill acquisition centres, shoreline reclamation projects, and youth empowerment programmes.”

”Partly as a result of these and other efforts being made by the Federal Government, oil production has increased remarkably from 750,000 barrels per day to 2.5 million barrels per day.”

”The creation of the ministry by itself has made a remarkable difference as the region is now receiving the attention it deserves in the development efforts of the nation. More importantly, relative peace has returned to the region,” he stated.

On the protests in some part of the region, he said, “When the amnesty programme was announced by the government, it is not supposed to stay forever.”
