Herdsmen rob passengers on highway

Suspected herdsmen on Sunday unleashed mayhem on passengers along the ever-busy Benin-Sagamu Expressway, dispossessing the passengers, including a former staff of PUNCH, Mr. Jonah Iboma, of valuables.

Iboma, in a distress call to a correspondent, said both the 18-seater Toyota bus, belonging to Agofure Transport Limited, which was conveying himself and 17 others from Ughelli to Lagos and another commercial vehicle, belonging to Izuchukwu Transport Limited, were ambushed at Ekiadolor, just before the State College of Education, in Ovia North East Local Government, of the state.

He said the bandits conversed in Fufude.

Iboma, told our corrrespondent on the telephone that the bus in which he was a passenger with number plate, XP402EPE, was waved down at “a particularly bad spot,” just before the school.

He said, “They came out from nowhere and before we knew it, they had wreaked so much havoc. The first bus was worse hit, as they robbed virtually every passenger in it. They equally dispossessed us of money and property.

“They were armed with locally-made guns, long knives and a lot of charms.”

Iboma later informed our correspondent that policemen at the Ekiadolor police station told them that such incidents had been going on for some days, promising to move into action.

When contacted, Edo State Police Public Relattions Officer, Peter Ogboi, promised to get back to our correspondent, saying, “details have yet to come in.”
